Build CMS website? (4 posts)

I have to date, built 2 sites using wordpress, and was about to embark on my third. However, a friend suggested to me, that a CMS site would be more appropriate. I am asking here for some opinions on this.

The site I am going to build will consist of 8 pages including a blog. I want to use wordpress or Joomla as I want my client to be able to update the site himself. He is a documentary maker, and the site will have info about his films, and in addition one will be able to buy them . I am going to host the films on a site called dynamo video. People will pay to view the films. To date there are 9 films. Whilst I am sure there will be more in the next few years, he is unlikely to be adding new items very often.

So, I am thinking that the wordpress is a good choice. I find joomla a bit daunting.
I would really like to know if people have had problems in creating what appears to be a regular website, with the blog appearing on one of the pages. Technically, I know how to set this up, but I want to be sure this is the best option for the client.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    Shouldn't be any problem whatsoever.

Great, but do you think it a good choice for the client. My friend advised that wordpress is basically for blogging.

WordPress has come a long way since it was first launched as a blogging tool. Have a look at http://www.surfermag.com/ or some of the other sites in the Showcase.

I've used WP to build quite a few non-blog sites for clients. For small to medium sites, it's ideal and a system that non-technical authors shouldn't find too daunting.
