Are there any plugins that can add forums and groups (like yahoo groups) to a buddypress script. If so, can you tell me which ones?

Enable User Groups in Settings > BuddyPress > Settings, and you and your members can create groups in BuddyPress

Install bbPress plugin for Sitewide Forums and/or BuddyPress Group Forums http://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

Will these plugins also help admin and members to be able to activate groups and forums? I can't seem to find anything that will allow me to set up a group.

@rpsmith221 you don't need a plugin to activate groups. You'll need the bbPress plugin to create sitewide and/or group forums per link I gave above.

I can't seem to find anything that will allow me to set up a group.

If the "Create a Group" button is not visible in your Groups Directory, you can add the slug "create" after the groups directory url to access the Create a Group panels e.g. http://example.com/groups/create/

I realize that this will sound stupid, but can you explain in more detail:

"If the "Create a Group" button is not visible in your Groups Directory, you can add the slug "create" after the groups directory url to access the Create a Group panels e.g. http://example.com/groups/create/"

@rpsmith221 If your theme's page title is not within the WP loop, then the "Create a Group" button will not show up in your Groups Directory page beside the page title like it normally does in most themes as seen in the first image in this page http://codex.buddypress.org/groups/

You can manually add a link to "Create a Group" in your theme via custom menu or in a sidebar Text Widget by adding /create/ after the URL of your groups directory page.
