Buddypress seemed like a nice idea but it just seems to have opened the gates to the sploggers.
Correct me if I'm wrong but users seem to be able to register with non-existent email addresses and then immediately populate their activity streams / profiles with hundred of spam links.
There does not seem to be:
1) Any email confirmation system to check that the user has provided a working as opposed to a made up email address - which would weed out a good percentage of spammers / sploggers.
2) Any mechanism to approve or disapprove users - to catch those that get through stage one.
I've got moderation turned on but this just seems to be for the commenting system and not Buddypress.
I searched for plugins but the only one I found, which sounded ideal, hadn't been updated for over a year and, according to the feedback panel, most people said it didn't work with current versions of WP and BP.
How do other WP+BP users combat this problem?
Or have I missed something fundamental in the setup?
This is (was, as I've removed BP) on single WP+BP, not multisite.
Many thanks for any suggestions.
