[closed] Can't login? Brute Force Attacks and WordPress (2 posts)

  1. The buzz around the net lately has been about how WordPress is the target of a Brute Force attack, whereby people are trying to crack into your WP site by hammering the login page until it cries uncle.

To help understand what they are, and how to protect yourself, we have a Codex Article you should read: Brute Force Attacks. Matt Mullenweg has also posted an article regarding Brute Force Attacks.

It's important to remember that this kind of attack is not specific to WordPress. WordPress is just too darn popular. If you're getting really hammered and can't even get to your server to install plugins or tweak .htaccess, contact your webhost immediately. They're the ones who can help you best in that moment.

  2. Note: If you cannot get to your wp-admin/wp-login.php page at all, and get an error message like "not acceptable" then you MUST contact your webhost.

Many hosts are blocking direct access to wp-login.php until this is resolved.
