browse by tag – no longer working

i’m using wpmu 2.7 and since i’ve changed my theme, i can no longer browse by tags. i don’t think it’s the theme causing the problem, as all it happens with the prior theme aswell (it worked before). in the admin interface, i can still click the tags and get results. searching for tags works aswell. any hint on how i can narrow down the possible errors?
