Broken resize.gif image in Event Espresso cart view with Jetpack Photon

When Jetpack Photon is enabled with Event Espresso the resize.gif element of the Event Espresso cart view shows up as a broken image pointing to the URL http://i2.wp.com/mysite.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif?resize=550%2C9999

Trying to navigate directly to the image being served by wp.com results in an error message “We cannot complete this request, remote data could not be fetched”

The image is working correctly when requested directly from mysite.com and when Photon is deactivated.

I also posted to the Event Espresso forums. Their response was:
"...then it is a Jetpack Photon issue and you will need to discuss it with them as to why that singular image is causing an issue."

Personally I think they should take a stronger interest in tracking down the issue, especially since the plugin is commercial and I don't see how they can expect Photon developers to have access to the Event Espresso plugin for troubleshooting.

I also found an issue here that sounds similar that turned out to be a problem with the plugin nrelate.

    Thanks in advance!

Reporting back! Issue resolved. Not 100% sure what the root cause was.

Updating Event Espresso seemed to be the last step that resolved the issue. WordPress and Photon were also updated first without resolving the issue.

Now on Event Espresso Version 3.1.29.1.P and the URL comes up as

    http://i2.wp.com/mysite.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif?w=550

Notice the change in the parameter from ?resize=550%2C9999.
