• ok i dont know why this is occuring and i have installed wordpress before with any problems. i edited the wp-config-sample.php entered the correct database information, save it as wp-config.php and then uploaded all the files with it, except i keep getting this error “rror establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at DB_HOST. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?”
so i went to phpmyadmin and i checked the database info and all of it was inputted correctly to the wp-config.php its just i noticed i dont see a table for all the wp files. the database is blank. can someone please help me?

If this is a new installation, did you run install.php ?

If this is an old installation and you have suddenly lost all of the tables in your database, you should contact your hosting provider ASAP.

this is a new insallation for a new site. i created the db first then uploaded all the files. i didnt run the installer yet because i keep getting that error

its just i noticed i dont see a table for all the wp files
Before the install is done the DB is supposed to be empty. The install script will create the tables.
The WP files don’t go to the DB – they should be on the server in their own dir or in the root (your choice).

i did place them all in the directory. now when i try to load install script i get the same error with not being able to reach the database

Usually there is only 1 reason for that: one of the 4 pieces of info in the config file is not correct.

Edit. Maybe you can find some useful info here: Installing_WordPress

    heres one error i found
    553 Prohibited file name: .DS_Store

That filename should not be in a WordPress installation at this point. Where did you get it from ?

it was in the wordpress folder that i decompressed from the .zip file

I have never seen that in a file download from here.

I just checked the .zip and .tar.gz – there is no such file in those downloads. Where did you get the zip from ?

.DS_Store is a file added by MacOS X. It stores the folder information (such as custom icons and file arrangement). The file is normally invisible under OS X. I have never heard of them causing any server problems before, but I prefer to delete them after uploading, since they only take up server space.

.DS_Store files are NOT PRESENT in downloads from this site.
