Breaks wp_posts table and makes content disappear
-
I had this plugin running on a client site. On the surface it works well. However, a couple of weeks ago all of the content disappeared. The template was still there, but when you attempt to go to any page, including the homepage, it returns a 404 ‘not found’ error.
The first time this happened I restored the database using WP DB Manager. Worked fine – the content came back, everyone was happy. Then a few hours later the content disappeared again. Restored the database again, and all was good. Just to be sure though, I did a fresh install of everything – WordPress, the theme, and created a new database.
It was fine for a few days, until yesterday when the content disappeared again. After some investigation we found that the WP DB Manager plugin had broken the wp_posts table in the database. Repairing it via phpMyAdmin fixed it.
I have now uninstalled this plugin, and am searching for a more reliable one. The convenience of managing it through the WP Dashboard is great, but if it can’t be trusted I think it’s better to just run manual backups via phpMyAdmin (it’s not that hard. (there’s even a guide in the codex).
