This is what I get when installing this plugin:
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Fatal error: fatal flex scanner internal error--end of buffer missed in /home/content/42/7851942/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-maps/bp-maps.php on line 594I believe that this is all related to the way profile slugs are now handled by BP 1.2.8. A lot of other plugins that change the profile also break in a similar way.
It's more related to the fact that http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-maps/ has not bee updated for a while and is not compatible with latest BP/WP versions.

Aha! Thanks, @mercime. I'm still figuring out the intricacies of BuddyPress, which is far less documented, and very slowly — and painfully — beginning to understand why things don't work as they should.
As with a WP install, check plugin compatibility with current version. Feel free to post BuddyPress questions at our forums. You can use same username and password you used here to log in. Welcome to BuddyPress :-)
