• Decided to make the move between WordPress.com and self-hosting through Bluehost. Running into a couple of WordPress specific issues…

I only set up my WordPress.com domain less than two weeks ago, and I understand I can only fully transfer the name after 60 days. This isn’t a problem as I believe I have set up nameserver settings correctly, it’s just hard to tell exactly if it has worked at all…

One big reason I was moving over was to get a handle on Plugins, and I currently can’t see Plugin options when I’m looking at my Dashboard.

My technical knowledge is quite limited, and forcibly growing every day, but I’m struggling with this side of it all. How do I know when it’s officially gone all through? I’ve installed WordPress through their one-click install on Bluehost, but can’t see what difference has been made just at the moment.

    EDIT –

I was worried about the site going down during this process, and it seems a few people are having issues getting to my site. Some people when accessing it are just getting a blank WordPress template with only the name as an option to view.

For ease of understanding, the site is theperfecttwelve.com.

Log in at your BlueHost cPanel and click “Help” at top-right and give them a call. Press “2” to get a Support Tech, and tell him or her what help you need. Those folks are friendly and helpful, and someone will make sure your pointing and htaccess are correct.

Just a guess here, but it sounds to me like you have still have your domain name pointed to your wordpress.com installation, and then there is the question of whether you want to move any content or database info from wordpress.com to your self-hosted installation. The BlueHost Support Techs might or might not deal with *all* of that, but I would still begin by giving them a call.
