Bluehost Error Page (11 posts)

    Hello,

I'm following the Lynda training for hosting a WordPress site through an online server. I'm using bluehost and filezilla. I reached the step in the process after you load the wordpress files onto filezilla in the /here folder for the site. However, when I type in that web address in my browser, the Bluehost error 404 page not found shows instead of the wordpress config setup page. I triple checked all my connection settings but nothing seems to be working. Has anyone done this tutorial before and run into this issue? Am I missing a step? Help! Thanks!

I have not seen that particular training video.

However you should be able to upload the WP folders and files to the bluehost site root.

I think it'll be best for you to contact the support team from Bluehost.

mbranthover, do you have a URL to where you're seeing the 404 error message?

    The page is

    themebsite.com/meb/start

Getting a wordpress error page now

I'd like the address to just be themebsite.com/start

In that case, you would have to most likely create the start directory on the same level where /meb is now, and then move the files and folders to that directory. Once that is done, you can login to the dashboard and my recommendation would be to use the velvetblues update URL plugin to change all the URLs from the old one at themebsite.com/meb/start to themebsite.com/start. Here is that:

Ah! I wish I had that plug in before I manually moved the folders... Now I'm running into the issue that the plugin prevents, username/password discrepancies.

Is there a way to access the old login and update it?

You might be able to update the password via phpMyAdmin: http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin Hope that helps!

    mbranthover,

I am getting the same error that you had when you started this post. I'm also using the Lynda.com tutorial. I've started a ticket with BlueHost, but could you tell me what your solution was that ended up fixing the problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    Beau
