Blue Host and wordpress in subfolder and subdomain multisite set up? (8 posts)

    Hi,

    A friend of mine has a bluehost server package and has installed wordpress in a subfolder called test.
    public_html/test

    The site works fine when you go to his site via - mysite.com

    and wordpress admin takes you to mysite.com/test/wp-admin.php

    Now then...

    He would like a multisite set up using subdomains.
    He has already set up a wildcard subdoamin like so:
    *.mysite.com

    He started the first part of a multisite install by adding /* Multisite */
    define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

    to the wp-config file.

    Unfortunately he got an error like so:
    ERROR: Your WordPress address must match your Site address before creating a Network. See General Settings.

    In wp-config he has these details:

    define('WP_HOME','http://mysite.com/');
    define('WP_SITEURL','http://mysite.com/test/');

    How can this be overcome?

    Kind regards

    To add to this I have been reading this:

    http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/19796

    Has this been resolved and/or is there a patch that will get this working?

  3. The site works fine when you go to his site via - mysite.com

    and wordpress admin takes you to mysite.com/test/wp-admin.php

    That isn't supported in 3.4

    You need to install 3.5-beta if you want to have WP Multisite in a subfolder like that, or wait for 3.5 to be released.

    Thanks for the quick reply Mika. Really appreciate this.

    Also I know its in beta at the minute (3.5) but how beta is it?

    Would it be advisable to install on a basic production site?

    Or are there still issues with it?

    Regards

    Bleem

    It's pretty darned good now

    It would be suitable for a 'playing with and experimenting' production site

    I'm not sure it's 100% ready for primetime yet

  6. My one warning would be that the Beta Media Uploader is really beta :)

    But I'm using the latest nightly right now on my live site, and it's okay. I think if you're building the site out now, it's okay :) Or wait like... a week for RC1.

    Thanks for the input everyone - sorry for the late reply - I'll try it and see how it goes.

    Once again thank you.

  8. RC1 is due out any day now, just FYI.
