Blogger import error

    Trying to import a blog from Blogger into my newly installed wordpress 2.9.1, I get this error:

    Could not connect to https://www.google.com
    There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went wrong:

    Unable to find the socket transport “ssl” – did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (0)

    How do I correct this please, anybody?
