So, uh, anyone out there have a talent for writing Microsoft Word add-ins? Or maybe some experience in reverse engineering?
I wouldn't use this if it existed for WordPress, but I'm sure there's some out there who would. (Then again, who wouldn't at least give it a try?)

I wouldn't give it space on my servers much less give it a try.
If you want to use a third-party tool to blog with try either w.bloggar or Zempt. Both are excellent tools. I try to distance myself from MS products as much as I can. I can only imagine the extra codes thrown in to your Blogger posts by MS Word, much like any web page posted using MS Word as the web page editor.
