[resolved] Blog subscribers not being emailed about new posts. (9 posts)

People can subscribe, and can confirm their subscriptions, but new posts do not generate any emails. My theme is Solar v1.0 from Progression Studios. I am in a catch 22. I'm in the middle of releasing my web series. I don't want my subscribers to get annoying test emails from me. So I don't want to test unless I have a new post. Also, I don't want to disable my plugins, since one of them is a video player where my episodes play on my homepage. None of the plugins were on the list of conflicting plugins. Thanks. Any help is appreciated. My site is: WorkingLikeAnts.org.

I had what seemed like the same problem for the last few days and just discovered the embarrassingly simple solution—email was indeed going out, but my copies were going to my spam filter (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/subscriber-notification-emails-not-going-out-after-361-update).

Also, for checking email without sending annoying test emails to all subscribers, try this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/check-email/

mtblack: Thank you for the helpful suggestions. Sadly, I didn't find any of the emails in my spam folder. After installing the check-email plugin, the test email came right to my inbox. Unfortunately, notifications of new posts do not. I even retested by making my current post a draft and republishing with new content.

I'm afraid the Check Email plugin won't help here, since Jetpack Notification emails are not sent from your server but from WordPress.com.

I checked our email logs for a few of your subscribers, and can confirm that no emails were sent to them about your latest post, so that's not a spam issue either.

I checked the status of your Jetpack connection, and didn't notice any errors there.

Could you walk me through the steps you follow to publish a new post? Do you use a specific plugin to clone or duplicate existing posts, or do you use a third-party application or plugin while publishing?

    Thanks!

Thanks for checking on that stuff, Jeremy. I appreciate it.

I noticed that under "Discussion Settings" that I had unchecked the "Follow Blog" button, thinking that I didn't want there to be a "Follow Blog" button in the comment form. Now I wonder if that is the source of my problem. Is that possible? With that box unchecked, I still was able to get subscribers, so I'm not sure if that had an effect or not.

In answer to your question, when I post, I do not use a plugin, but my theme has some unusual posting features. I'm using Solar v1.0 from Progression Studios. Here's how posting works: 1. I choose "Post", "Add New". I have an option on the right for "Post Format" I can choose from "Standard" "Gallery" "Video" "Audio" "Link". I choose "Video" because the site is designed as a web series. If I select "Video" I then select a category for my post. Next, I add a video embed code in field inside a special "Post Formats" box. I then add relevant tags, a featured image, and then I publish. My posts are set to show up on my "Episodes" page, rather than the front page of my website.
    Thanks again for your help.

I noticed that under "Discussion Settings" that I had unchecked the "Follow Blog" button, thinking that I didn't want there to be a "Follow Blog" button in the comment form.

You did right, and that won't affect how subscriptions are sent. it just means that your readers can't subscribe to your site while commenting; they can only use the subscription widget you've added to your sidebar.

I have an option on the right for "Post Format" I can choose from "Standard" "Gallery" "Video" "Audio" "Link". I choose "Video" because the site is designed as a web series

It seems like you theme uses Post Formats. That's a theme feature available in WordPress, and doesn't affect Jetpack subscriptions.

Next, I add a video embed code in field inside a special "Post Formats" box.

This, however, seems like a custom feature added by your theme, and means that the content you add in that box won't be delivered to your subscribers.

I checked our email logs for some of your subscribers again, and it seems that your last post was correctly sent to your subscribers on the 29th at 00:09 UTC (about 14 hours ago). If you still experience issues, could you send me an email with some examples of the email addresses that did not receive the notification?
If you mention this thread, I'll be able to follow up with you.

    Thanks!

    Hey There,

Thanks again for the information. You are correct. My last post was sent to subscribers. Yay! The only change that I made to this WordPress site was to actually check the "Follow Blog" checkbox under the "Discussion Settings" menu.

I did think of something else, though. Last week I deactivated Jetpack on my other WordPress site. If the "Follow" checkbox wasn't what solved the problem, perhaps it was a conflict between having Jetpack setup on two sites using the same WordPress account.
Maybe when I post my next post, I'll do a test post with the box unchecked and see if it sends the notification.

At any rate, thanks again for all your help.

I moved a WP blog to a self-hosted, finally got a nice WP tech to move the blog followers to my new home, then had an issue of blog-2 showing up and original blog disappearing now resolved, and now it seems as if NONE of my original blog followers are receiving the posts. PLEASE help. I am seriously at wit's end. http://www.JanDeelstra.com/blog
And no, the posts are not in the spam; and yes, new followers do get the posts (I'm fairly sure) and the social media posts go out fine so that's at least something.
Additionally, I'm apparently using a theme that doesn't allow me to drag and drop the "sharing" buttons into the "activate" portion of the dashboard so none of by posts are being shared (even if they were being read). Any help is appreciated. Oh, theme being used is WordPress Website Template by Expand2Web, host is iPage, and I'm using the JetPack. http://www.JanDeelstra.com
