• Hey all,

I’m getting a 404 not found on my posts when I add the blog title to the custom permalink structure for some reason. My client would like (for apparent SEO purposes) the blog title and the category in the blog post url. For example, my blog title is “Whats Happening”, so I’ve structured this way /whats-happening/%category%/%postname%/ and in order to remove the word “category” from the category URL I’ve added “whats-happening” to the category base.

My clients needs are pretty specific in that they need the urls to be structured with the blog title, category name, and post name. For example, /blog-name/category-name/post-name

I’ve tried quite a few variations and plugins but unfortunately no luck so far. Any ideas for me? Thanks so much in advance!

  • I have the same issue across a number of sites. If the blog title is at the beginning of the permalink even if you have words after, then the link fails. The only work around that I found was to add an underscore, ‘_’, in the permalink before the title. Not the best, but it works.

    Cheers,
    John

    Just a further note:
The actual post title can keep the blog title at the beginning, it is just the permalink itself that needs to be changed.

These may be related to the hosting.

Top 2 things that I have seen cause similar issues are the htaccess file not updating correctly and server not being configured correctly (such as running WordPress on a Windows server)
