This problem occurred with 2.7.1 and is still occurring with 2.8.

It happens with any theme, so does not appear to be theme related.
It happens with all plugins deactivated, so it does not seem to be a plugin conflict of any sort.

My client’s blog http://tinyurl.com/cd5slm is set to have the Front page display blog posts. But no matter what value is selected for the “Blog posts show at most”, the home page shows all blog posts, currently 36.

For the life of me I cannot find out how to fix this. Any ideas as to what could cause this and what a remedy might be?

Actually what I’ve just discovered is that the correct number of blog posts is shown, but the blog continues to show older posts underneath the “correct” number of posts. In other words, if I have selected only to have 5 posts show on the page, then the 5 most recent posts are to first 5 shown, but below that are the rest of the posts, starting with the oldest post.

What I have also discovered is that the home page is now showing 38 posts, but the “next” page is showing 5 posts, what I specified in the Reading preferences. So it’s only the Home page or Front page where the number of posts being displayed is not correct.

This mystery has been solved. It seems my client had been marking ALL of his posts as Sticky. So the loop was doing just what it should be doing, putting all his sticky posts on the home page.
