I set up a blog using wordpress.org in September 2010. I have updated content very frequently. But Google has not indexed even a single page. Can you please tell me where I've gone wrong? the url is http://www.iamtheworld.net/blog

Have you done anything to help it along?

    google webmaster tools is helpful,
you can submit a sitemap (google xml sitemaps, and yoast's seo plugins are good for this)

it guides google on finding your content

thanks buddy. will try that. however, my question is to understand the structure of wordpress vis a vis search engines. I mean, what are the features in wordpress.org that make it search engine friendly? For example, I haven't customized the permalinks thingie. the urls contain question marks and numbers. could that be a reason?

It may be part of it.... Google is a mysterious beast

WP is set up well for SEO, and things should get picked up pretty quickly out of the box. But sometimes Google just doesn't do that

I set up a new site, and forgot to set permalinks up. But did google webmaster tools right away. My articles were in Google in a matter of days, which is what reminded me I wanted permalinks set up

A quick check of the (sometimes not so) obvious... are your privacy settings (settings > privacy) set to allow all visitors, including search engines?

    Good :)

And, actually, when I type "site:iamtheworld.net" (without quotes) into Google, it shows many pages of your site to be indexed.

What made you think that they weren't?

Gee! yes, the pages are indexed indeed. But one week ago, they weren't. I installed the SEO plugin upon a friend's advice. Could it have been because of that?

I want to understand how wordpress is structured in the first place with regard to search engine friendliness. Isn't it set up for SEO by default? Is the SEO plugin necessary then? and to what extent does post name in the url make a difference as against the standard numerical format of wordpress urls?

WordPress is generally set up for basic SEO

Your theme however can help or hinder that, depending on how it is set up

SEO plugins can help you tweak things, if you feel so inclined. However they are not necessary at all to be properly indexed

If you want real specific detail on this, there are whole websites out there dedicated to WordPress SEO, you will find they often conflict with each other on various matters. Every expert has their own opinion.

But if you want the nitty gritty, it may be best to go to the experts rather than wait here and hope to get an answer.

Hi Folks, I've been following this post and I must add that---If I use one of the tools even traffic travis, to check the indexing of my site by all the big engines, I get a big fat "0" but when I use phenomenoodle 's method as stated above,Well I get nothing but flattering results.. This is hard to understand and seems like it not uncommon.. Thanks
