[resolved] Blog nightmare (19 posts)

I posted about this last night, but I have received no replies so far. I want to make a more clear post about what happened in sequential order. It's sort of a worst nightmare scenario for anyone's blog and I am really taken aback, wondering what could have possibly happened...

Last night I was editing one of my first blog posts that I had posted about three hours before and all of a sudden, I got a message saying something along the lines of "This post does not exist. Perhaps it was deleted?" For the next several minutes, I kept refreshing my page, and sometimes my blog posts would show up, and sometimes there would be nothing. Eventually, my blog went blank for good. When I logged into my Dashboard, the "Right now" section said I had four posts (which was correct) but when I clicked to edit them, it said "No posts found."

Within the next couple hours, more content vanished from my site. One of my plugins called "About Me," which displayed links to my social media profiles, stopped showing icon links and just showed text. Eventually, it disappeared altogether. And then my pages disappeared. All that was left on my blog was my header, sidebar and footer.

I started to think perhaps sometime hacked into my site and was deleting content. I don't know how this could have possibly happened, but I went and changed my password late last night.

I went to bed hoping this was some bizarre WordPress glitch and my content would be back. But this morning it looks exactly like it did when I went to bed last night.

I do not have backups of my blogs posts or any of my pages, and I have been working on these meticulously the last few weeks since I launched this blog.

    I really cannot believe this...

I guess I could recreate everything, but could this happen again? What could possibly have caused this?

Someone could have hacked into your site, like you said, and deleted your content. If so, then changing your password may stop that from happening in the future, but it wouldn't get your content back for you.

I doubt that's what happened though...when you explain things like seeing the posts in the "Right now" area, but clicking on them and getting No posts...that seems to indicate something else is at work here. If someone had deleted them, you wouldn't see them in the right now area.

Have you looked at your database to see if the posts are still there?

    My url is http://behnaz.info

The posts are no longer in the "Right Now" section. They were momentarily last night, but now it says 0 posts and 0 pages.

Let me check my database to see if the blog posts are there...

Fiagro, do you mean to look in my FTP database for my posts? Which directory would blog posts and pages be under?

No, it wouldn't be in the files, it would be in the database.

Did you by chance change anything in the files (wp-config.php, maybe?)before you noticed the posts missing?

    Who is your host?

    I have Yahoo Web hosting.
About two days ago, I thought I might have accidentally moved some of my WordPress installation files around while I was uploading using my FTP client. But then it looked like I was okay, b/c none of the content on my page changed. Again, that was two days again and things and looked and functioned fine afterwrds. I went ahead and posted a blog entry last night. Everything was great for a few hours. I was getting comments, etc.. and then BAM!, all of a all of a sudden, my content began to disappear.

Also, can you clarify what you need me to do when you say to check in my database? Can I do this in the WordPress administration panel?

I should note that my WordPress administration panel is not allowing me to make new blog posts either. I just tried to publish a post and when I press Published, it takes me to a screen that says "No posts found."

    Seriously, WTF.

Sounds like you may have broken something when you moved the files around. If you want to email me your Yahoo login info, I'll take a look for you...I'll only be here for another hour or so.

I am sending you my info. Now, is there a conceivable explanation for why this happened last night when the files were (possibly) moved more than two days ago?

You're welcome. For the record, the several tables in the db were corrupted...ran a repair in phpMyAdmin.

I have Yahoo! webhosting and I have the same problem...all of my blog posts are gone as of last night! I am also unable to post anything new. Is there an easy fix? I am new in the world of blogging :(

Do you know how to log into your database using phpMyAdmin? If so, do it and repair your database. The following video may help.

I do not know how to log into my database with phpMyAdmin, but I'll check to see if the video you provided can guide me. Thank you for responding and I will report back.

It won't tell you how to login...it just shows you what to do once you get there.
