Hello,
I think I've messed up an import of a wordpress blog. Only some of the posts are there but all the categories and tags are there. Even for the missing posts.
Let me explain what happened:
I transferred over to a new webhost service. They have a WordPress autoinstaller so I used it and set up a new WordPress installation.
I had backed up all the files via FTP from the old webhost and uploaded it all to the new webhost in the location where the new installation is. The site uses a lot of images so it was important that the images were kept.
After a couple of weeks, I got a "Cannot Connect to Database" error. I figured out that I was still somehow connected to the old webhost database, so I changed it to the new database and checked everything out and it asked me to set up WordPress again.
So I set up WordPress again and realised that all my posts were gone and it was just like a new installation again.
So I tried to use a XML file that I had to try and restore the blog's posts. The import says "It all finished ok" but I'm missing about a year's worth of posts from the import. The tags and categories that those lost posts were linked to are there fine. It's just the posts that have disappeared.
At first, I thought that it was because the XML file was too big so I split it up into smaller chunks and tried to import them all again, but every time I did, it just said that it all exists already.
So I'm a bit at a loss as what could be wrong and how to solve it. Unless I go through each of the categories, find out which posts are missing and re-do them.
Have I done something with the import process?
