I have a page where all my blog posts go, the Template is Blog Excerpt (summary) and I want to have a permanent header which gives an overview of what my postings will be about but I only want the header to show up on this page. Please help and be detailed because I'm new.

    Thanks.

Make sure that any changes like this are made in a Child Theme:

Do not modify theme files directly -- they will be overwritten and lost when your theme is updated.

Do you have a page.php file in your theme that can be accessed via appearance> editor>?

You can do that on your local computer and then upload the new folder and the new stylesheet.

I don't think you need to make a child theme.

You should be able to fix this via admin panel and no core files need to be touched.

YOEBO - we do not recommend that people modify theme files either -- please do not encourage that. Down the road it creates many problems when their changes are lost.

WPyogi - What changes can be lost by editing a child theme?

financialfergy - I'm pretty sure you don't have to create another child theme to achieve what you're trying to accomplish.

How can I create a child theme? I don't know how to access my FTP on my computer

financialfergy - I would suggest that you visit Responsive theme's dedicated support here:

    http://themeid.com/help/

They are really helpful and there is a free child theme you can download there.

@YOEBO - we appreciate any help on these forums, please just remember that inexperienced people can easily get into a big mess down the road if they make changes to theme files. As I'm sure you can understand, it's really unfortunate to have someone come here and say, "I updated my theme and lost a ton of work -- and someone here told me to do it that way."

It's actually listing all my pages on the menu.

You need to set up your menus again -- theme settings do not get transferred to a child theme.

Ok back to my original question:

I want a text header that always stays at the top of my blog page which is continually being updated with new article postings.

    Thanks.
