Good morning (well it was!). I have just discovered a problem with my WordPress installation.
http://nixit.co.nz/wordpress/
All I get is a
"You do not have permission to access the requested file on this server"
I can still login and all the appropriate files appear to be on the server. I was alerted by someone who got an error message when they tried to post a comment.
Should I upgrade to 1.5.2 to fix the problem? And if so, do I keep the usual files?
Check in ftp that your files are CHMODded correctly - it could be something to do with that. I would reccomend upgrading to 1.5.2 anyway since it has various bug fixes and security fixes, I believe.
I need to point out that until last night the blog has had a happy existence with no major difficulties.
Yes I'm going to upgrade, however I don't want to completely break the whole thing my overwriting or not overwriting something that is critical.
Nix - have the hosting co moved servers ?
Things on the server can randomly go wrong still.
I managed to upgrade safely. All you need to do is keep your wp-content directory and wp-config.php the same and replace everything else, then go to wp-admin/upgrade.php
Hey Podz, not sure.
I can still access the dashboard, but when I tried to go to a page link (from my homepage) I get a script error:
http://www.nixit.co.nz/wordpress/index.php/the-creative-commons/
I would:
- check the last modified times on all the files
- check there is nothing odd anywhere in the wp directory
- yell at the host and see if they changed anything at all whatsoever no matter how small
- then I would probably upgrade, or, backup and upgrade into a different folder for now (wordpress2)
Thanks for all the help Tishi and Podz.
- checked dates, looked for oddities - nothing found
- I have yelled at the host
- I am currently backing up before doing an upgrade
- I am moving hosts anyway, maybe I'll have to do it sooner rather than later
OK, I deleted my install (except for wp-config.php and wp-content folder) and uploaded 1.5.2 .
I have got my blog back but click on comments and well - it's broken. My site provider maintail that I have done something and yet, until this morning, I hadn't touched it since posting my last post (ironically about moving hosting providers ...)
Anyway, I think I'll get on with the move and leave the provider to their own devices (remember the fun I had with the install a year ago , Podz?).
I do indeed - you know where I am if you need me :)
