Blockquote Help (3 posts)

    I could use some help, please.

    I am trying to use a blockquote image. I got that figured out. However, I run into a problem when my quoted line is really short, only a few words. My image is taller than one line, and so it cuts off the bottom of my image if the quote is too short to spill onto a second line.

    I've tried adjusting margins and padding, but it doesn't address this problem. I tried to cheat and just add extra breaks inside the blockquotes, but that didn't work either.

    This is my current blockquote:

    blockquote {
    margin: 15px 30px 0 45px;
    padding: 0 0 0 45px;
    background: url('blockquote.gif') no-repeat left top;
    font-style:italic;

    The closest I've found to an answer is adding a bottom border. But this puts a line under it, which I don't want. I did search the forums and online and read the tutorials, but cannot find anything that addresses this problem.

    Help?

    This is a common problem when using images as part of your blockquote. I have a css experimental page that test drives a bunch of blockquote styles and on it is one that works great, most of the time, with images but it is a little complex.

    Take a look and see if you can find some solutions that might work for you. The "answers" are all in the page's source code.

    Also, the only way to "guarantee" that your image will show, is to set the height and/or width. Problem with that is that if your blockquote is "longer" than the height, it may backfire. Depends upon a lot of other elements.
