How would I incorporate a block quote into my site. I’d like to have a little welcome message on my front page, so I’m guessing that is what a block quote is? Thank!

A blockquote in WordPress lingo is actually the style used in the editor for quoted text.
You click the blockquote button in the editor – see button #6 here – and apply it to your text in any post or page, and it is styled differently than the surrounding text. Here’s what a blockquote looks like in Forever:
