    I have a theme I created working in production on wordpress.com, but when I copy the theme (with no plugins) to my new development version of wordpress, I have a problem.
    1) I copy the theme folder to the proper directory
    2) I see the theme as an option in my presentation admin screen
    3) I click on the theme
    4) The page immediately goes white and I can't do anything in my dev wordpress without deleting the theme directory.

    I've tried changing this line which still doesn't work:
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    to this:
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

    Any ideas? thanks.

    really silly question, but working with what info you have provided thus far: is there a name conflict with your theme and another theme in your theme directory?

    p.s. I don't think that first line you mention is anywhere near your culprit...

    it sounds like a php error

    I have three themes: classic, default, mytheme
    Theme Name: WordPress Classic
    Theme Name: WordPress Default
    Theme Name: MyTheme

    There must be some discrepancy between the wp.com and my wp.org installation because the theme works on wp.com. I've downloaded the latest version to work with. Would the Theme URI throw anything off?

    really hard to troubleshoot w/o seeing it... try this: c&p the header from a working theme to your new theme (replacing the new ones header)... give it a shot and see what happens...

    I figured it out. I had a function that needed to be commented out: make_tags_local().

    Thanks for looking at it.
