Blank black box on load (Twelve theme)

This is the closest I’ve gotten to a carousel plugin that actually works, although it has been a struggle. I purchased and installed the Twelve theme. My only remaining problem is that it loads to a blank black box, not the first photo.

Once an arrow is clicked to move to the next photo, it continues to play without a hitch, but the autoplay/first photo just won’t load on their own. Any ideas? I’m in a bit of a time crunch and would really love to work this out.
