Blank 404 in WordPress Mu (5 posts)

We've been having problems with the 404 pages on our WordPress Mu installation. It can load the 404 fine for the root directory (http://ltsblogs.org.uk/asas loads it fine), but if you visit any of the blogs in the sub-directories (ltsblogs.org.uk/consolarium/ for example), any 404 page on those sites gets redirected from "[broken url]" to "[broken url]/" and just displays a blank page. Has anyone seen this error before?

    Thanks,

I noticed from the sidebar here that you're running WPMU 2.8.2, which is full of security vulnerabilities. Upgrading to WordPress 3.0.1 with the new multisite mode will fix those vulnerabilities and probably fix your problem too. Follow this guide:

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll contact my bosses and get their feedback on doing an upgrade. Ideally I would prefer to do so, but we provide educational resources for schools and, since they've only just started back, there might be some reluctance to do anything which might take resources offline.

If anyone has any ideas on what could fix this in the mean time I would appreciate it (I'm going to push the upgrade anyway though since the security issues will be a problem)

  4. A blank page is usually a php issue. If your theme has a 404 page, delete it/rename it and try again. It should default to the index page style.

But also ... Not upgrading could be the reason why, too.

  5. Plan that upgrade for a weekend then. Seriously, you really shoudl upgrade.

Also, as stated a blank page is a php error of some kind, so dig out those logs.
