My blog is in a subdirectory of my site because the site was fully developed when I added on WordPress. I set it up to show a page of the blog for the site's main page. I have a custom 404 error page (or I had one) but it doesn't show if I type in a nonexistent URI. I get the WordPress theme with a blank page instead. If I type in the name of the 404 page it shows, but it is specified in the .htaccess file and does not show up. It was working fine but I think the WP rewrite has something to do with this as it specifies index.php and I use AddHandler to show php pages as html. I tried reading up here about the rewrite rules, but they apply to WP pages and not the static html pages of my site which is what the 404page.html is. Can I just make a 404.php copy of my custom page? I can't tell what is supposed to be showing when I get an error, but it is a blank page in the frame of my WP theme. Help?
