Well i was satisfied with the blacklist plugin cause it took care of the gambling and other low lifes spam i got but i just found out it deletes everything !
I posted a comment on a story and got deleted all the time...
I had to take my ip and /or email address out of the database cause it ads me to it but time after time it trashes everything...
    So what is wrong ?

You probably have a blank line in the blacklist. It's an easy mistake to make. Basically, if you have a blank line in the blacklist, then the plugin thinks that everything with a space in it (or any other form of blank, white space) is spam and deletes it.

If what macmanx said is true, then this has happened way too many times already. Someone'd better tell the plugin author to create more robust function to parse the keywords. How hard is it to ignore white space? and ask users to enclose significant white space with, for example, quotes, e.g. "spam bot", " ".?
    Don't you think?

Are you sure that was the only blank line? Did you check at the beginning and the end of the blacklist too?

Fun. Are you talking WP's default blacklist plugin or the 3rd party plugin? If you're talking about the 3rd party plugin, I'd recommend contacting the author directly.

and from who is the WP's default blacklist ?

The WP devs. But WP's blacklist doesn't delete the comments, it just holds them just for moderation. That is, unless you hacked it somehow. Then the issue is entirely up to you and you alone. When I'm talking about WP's default blacklist, I mean the one available under Options/Discussions.

I'm telling ya, Spaminator works, and it's no hassle. But, if you want the headaches, you can keep on trucking!

so wp blacklist is junk ?

I'm not saying that wp-blacklist is junk, nor would anyone else, I think. However, if it doesn't seem to be working for you, then move on to something else. There's lots of choices out there. While I happily promote Spaminator, it may not be for everyone. I like it because it gets everything in my comment spam list and I turned off the "send me an email when spam is killed" and my inbox is happily devoid of stuff. Once in a while a new spam makes it past, only to be caught by another of MooKitty's spam tools, and I moderate it, adding the info with one click to my comment spam words list, and that's it.
So, like I said, if it's not working, it's not necessarily a bad plugin. It's just not doing what you want, and , perhaps, a combination of other plugins and your site design could interact in a negative way. It's happened before that some plugins step on the toes of other plugins.

    @macmanx - no ads :)
As daft as this sounds, people go there for help, not to be sold something. I sort of know the arguments for putting some there, but nah... I like ad-free :)
and John - I have Kitten's plugins on 4 sites right now, and spam ? What's that then ? ;)

    Okay update....
I just couldnt recist trying figuring out what is wrong..
So the author of the blacklist responded and he came up with the idea to check my blacklist table for a empty line.
    And yes there was one....
But that doesnt answers the question how the empty entry got in the blacklist table.
so now the blacklist works.... and even with moderation on...
but its to early to be happy...

The empty line is usually just user error. Don't worry, it happens to us all the time.

the WP1.5 builtin blacklist also wipes out every comment regardless of whether they contain relevant phrases or not. I removed everything but IP addresses from my blacklist and still my own comments didn't make it through and when I went through the wp_comments table I found a bunch of comments by other people that got caught (most likely by the blacklist) as well. And no, there was no white-space in my blacklist

Try removing everything from the blacklist. Do you have any other active plugins?

I didn't have then. Now I am using Kitten's Spam Words, which worked well with 1.2 but now it only puts comments in moderation instead of deleting them. So I am currently at the mercy of the spammers again :(

First, note that IP-address filters are near useless. Usually spammers are on dynamic IPs, either dialups, or proxies, or zombie machines.

If you would like to try out my new CG-AntiSpam, it's still in alpha form, but has done a decent job for me. I'm looking for people with active commenters AND spamming to ensure I'm not hitting false-positive cases.

It's packed in with all my other plugins here:

I am currently running 1.2 WP and using WP Blacklist - it is deleting every comment that is left, it used to work and would email me when it would delete a comment. Now it just eats them. I read the comments left above and tried searching for a blank line, there are two in my database, however everytime I try to search for them or the first time I tried to delete them the browser freezez up. I think its time to move one. Unless anyone has any suggestions.
