Support » Plugin: Displet RETS / IDX Plugin » Beware! Do NOT buy.

  • I am certain the first 5 reviews are by friends or family of the owners of Displet. This one is a legit one, by someone who used it. I had to buy it just to see how it worked which cost me $100 “set up” fee, and $60 month first month. Then after it was “set up” I was then able to see it was NOT what anyone would want for many reasons. I sell Charleston SC real estate, and the properties it was showing were labeled NC just for starters. The popup widget caused problems in my site so I had to disable it. Within 4 days of realizing I didn’t want it I notified them I didn’t want it, and they wouldn’t refund my money for being “unhappy with the product”.
Their contract states if for any reason you are unhappy and want to discontinue service we will refund you your first month payment if you give notice within first 10 days which I did. Last I looked still haven’t been refunded.

Here is more reasons why it isn’t what you want:

1.) Uses an iframe which is not good for SEO, or user experience.
2.) You as the owner of the site has zero control over the functionality, design etc. because it’s all on their server
3.) You have to give them backend access to your site basically in the form of an A record.

There is much better services out there, and the one I found is NOT only 100 times better, but also $20 month cheaper.

This agent used our system for 1 day and didn’t want to watch any tutorials, or learn how to use the system. He purchased a theme from another provider and assumed that the mocked up quick search on the theme would magically work. In short, he knows nothing about development and very little about WordPress. Each point he’s made is factually incorrect.

    1) The system does not use an iframe. It is 100% indexable. We can provide hundreds of examples of agent sites that each have thousands of listings indexed.

    2) You have more control over our system than any other IDX provider allows. You have 100% of control over the HTML, 100% of control over JS, & 75% of control over HTML.

    3) An A record does not give anyone backend control of a website.

Had the company just had some integrity and kindly said, “We are sorry you didn’t like it,” and then refunded my money then I wouldn’t have felt as compelled to write this. However, with that said. This comment wasn’t NOT meant in retaliation, but is in fact actually what occurred. I was not lazy and didn’t want to watch the videos. It just is an inferior product as compared to what I have now. Period. What I have now is what I was hoping Displet was. Also, had they allowed me to test it fully without charge for even one week I would have realized instantly it wasn’t what I was looking for and this all could have been avoided. My suggestion is to allow people test the full functionality for 30 days, BEFORE collecting any money THEN they customers would be able to see if it is what they want. Thus legitimizing the quality of your product, professionalism of your company, and integrity of services. My current service allows simple, easy to use HTML, CSS, and even short code..It was also very easy to integrate the IDX into the framework of my template without having the IDX feed run on another server. According to your tech’s directly from a support request:
“Everything that begins with the subdomain search is not a part of WordPress – you won’t be able to manage these pages from WordPress nor control the slug of their URL.” I’m not sure how this is supposed to be us having 100 percent control over the HTML and the Java Script.

Also according to the same tech:
“We can only include content from your site’s header and footer on your IDX pages (on the subdomain), unfortunately.”

Again, how is this supposed to be giving us complete control of the data. In essence all of this listing code and how its fed is stored on their servers with the client having absolutely zero control over their feed, or how it displays. The widgets are a somewhat decent feature but far from enough to make this plugin worth the amount of money.

    In response..

1.) I know VERY, very much about WordPress, and had been using it for over 4 years. it’s just their service/product is not well done.

2.) My business partner is a expert web Developer and web designer and he & I looked through the entire product, features (or lack thereof), and we came to the conclusion that this wasn’t the best or even 4th best IDX option for WP out there. I was perfectly willing to learn how the system worked but the system was flawed right from the very beginning, including external CDN feeds of all the property images which slowed the loading time of the site to a crawl.

3.) I used the service for 4 days, and was patiently asking for help, options, etc, but then realized it wasn’t good after I gave them multiple options to sway my feelings. Other pages that were not targeted to the “search.”domain were redirecting from their root domain values, which made those pages inaccessible. They offered an XML data feed where the feed values could be grabbed and put into our own widgets and that was supposedly “in the works” but was several months out.

At the end of the day, the contract reads that they will offer a refund if the client is unhappy and they have not. My advice is to stay away from this plugin. There are too many things that are just not right about this plugin and no signs that they have any desire to make it right with a customer who was clearly unhappy with their service and who did the right thing and ended the working relationship immediately and in accordance with their own Terms of Service, thus deserving of a refund according to those same terms.

    Hi jeschiller,
It sounds like your review is regarding a paid version of this plugin, but reviews are meant for the free versions that are distributed on WordPress.org.

If your review is in relation to the paid version of the plugin, may you change your review towards the free version?

    (@displetdev)

    Hi Andrew –

James didn’t bother to try the free version before moving to the paid version. If you would like to remove the review, you’ll get no argument from us. His review is full of factual inaccuracies.

    Thanks!

    ~DD

    I agree with James.

After installing the plugin, I could not gain access to my website, and it showed “this page cannot be displayed”

I reported the problem to them, and a few hours later I received an “issue solved” email, when I still could not access my website.

When I complained, some guy called Daniel sent me a link that took me to bing, showing search results for my website, which I still could not access.

When I asked why this happened, I got this very sarcastic answer:
I do not understand your last request.

Our plugin may be interacting with your other plugins causing your site to crash. I see you are using our free plugin so feel free to uninstall it if it is crashing your site. If not, uninstall other plugins you have so those will not crash your site when they interact with ours. This support group is reserved for customers using our premium products not our free products. Thanks.

    Daniel
and here is how I replied:
Thank you for that sarcastic reply. And if you don’t want to assist customers who are trying out your free product with the aim to later upgrade to the premium product, then you should not offer it as a free product in the first place.

So, this “free ride” customer would VERY, VERY gladly remove your plugin, if he could just get into his website. So please make it happen.

Also, for the sake of clarity, just like this group is only reserved for premium members, my support is only reserved for those who actually care about their customers.

Now, give me access to my website so that I can remove your product.

So, displetdev says one thing, and Daniel implies another. Just have a look at all the posts these guys leave…on WordPress forums they act as if they are the guardians of the internet, accusing some theme developers of incompetence. Their lack of good manners, and sheer arrogance in the way they express themselves knows no bounds. And by the way, I still cannot get into my website!

These forums are only for free versions of plugins/themes.

@jacques6068 – If you need help, please post on the support forum – not reviews.

If you post in the general support forum someone can help you deactivate or delete that plugin – http://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

So what’s the verdict people? I’m looking for a good free plugin for an IDX/MLS feed. Will this work. Can someone post a link to a site that utilizes it?
    Thanks,
    Phil G
