Better Inheriting (7 posts)

I'm really tired of themes that have stuff like font colors and families set in a billion different places.

For example on Twenty Thirteen I just had to go through and remove the hover effect for links in at least 5 or 6 different spots. #ea9629 is the hover color set at about line 130 of style.css. And then its reset at least 5 or 6 more times through out the css. WHY?!?!?!?!? Why can't I just change that color once at line 130 and then IF I want to be fancy and have a different hover somewhere else I'll write the css to do that.

If you guys or someone could make a theme that was set up like this the set up time I need to do a site would drop dramatically. 75% of my time is spent finding, fixing and/or getting rid of unnecessary css. Then I could reduce the amount I have to charge clients for set up which would help me sell more sites which would help me build more wordpress sites.

Theme developers need to find more efficient ways and NOT more fancy ways to set up css. I'm billing by the hour and I don't want to spend any more time setting up the css than I have to. AND I'me a designer so I ALWAYS have custom themes I'm setting up for clients.

You're supposed to write the CSS to do that anyway, you're supposed to write new styles that override old ones.

As so much of your time is spent tweaking someone else's CSS maybe it's better to just write your own? You can use a vanilla theme with all the PHP still there, like Blankslate http://wordpress.org/themes/blankslate

AND I'me a designer so I ALWAYS have custom themes I'm setting up for clients.

Unless you design for themes that already exist I really think a blankslate theme is the best option for you.

I've tried blankslate but that's too far in the other direction. All I'm asking for is a good theme where I don't have to change the same settings over and over again. If I change the hover color for links ALL hovers should change and then I can disinherit as I see fit. Instead by default you've got all those hovers disinherited from the primary/first hover setting.

This isn't rocket science. This is just good theme writing. You don't disinherit unless you need to for a specific reason.

Could you rewrite the style.css file with the improvements and put the code on PasteBin? To get things going.

I could but who's going to pay me for my time.

Hopefully you'll do this out of the goodness of your heart ;)
