Hello I had previously been working on this site in Drupal and am new to using WordPress as CMS. I found that the plugins and flexibility of WordPress appealing.
The site I am working on will host discounts articles for school district employees. Most of the articles will be negotiated discounts but some will be advertisements.
I am trying to accomplish a few things so I will break them down.
Some type of hierarchical categories for the deals.
-Automotive
--Car Sales
--Auto Club
Some deals are only for one school district, for all or some combination.
-All Districts
--Houston ISD
--Dallas ISD
Ideally I think it would be easiest to have a drop down that you set your district and only the items that have that district chosen or items with All Districts chosen would show up.
Finally I need to be able to break things down by location.
-Houston
--Galleria
--West Side
-Dallas
--Downtown
I have been researching and I can't quite figure out if it is best for me to use a custom post type, taxonomy, or even a custom field. I am currently using the Custom Post Type UI (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/) and have experimented with both.
I do know this could involve a lot of programming which I am alright with if someone can point me in the right direction. If I had to choose I would choose the later two problems to be fixed before the top. I don't currently have any funding to work with a programmer but once I can get a good working model I have some people interested in funding it.
Thank you for whatever insight you can offer.
