Alright, so I've been a wordpress user for quite some time and I am trying to use it as a full CMS for a internal portal site at my small office. I have various categories setup, however, what is the best way to do the following:

I have 2 files I release every thursday. I want to throw these files into a directory, or upload via WP and some how have them download able through a page, but not have to keep updating a link to the file all the time.

I also have a few pdfs that I always dump into certain directories, what is the best way to allow users to download them...

Also, is it possible to make the entire blog hidden, so when you visit http://www.mysite.com (assuming wp is in /httpdocs/ root folder) they must login. I don't want just anyone seeing the blog, but force them to login first, or register, get approved and login.

But I don't want to give them access to the Dashboard neccessarily.

    Suggestions, please!!!

There may be clever plugins somewhere, but for the files, you could possibly just place them in a directory which doesnt have an index.

That would be fine too, is there a way I could then just use PHP to list the fiels in that directory on say a WP-page?

I use File-Explorer by GaMerZ. It works very well.
