Best way to add a blog to a WordPress website? (5 posts)

I just created a website with WordPress and I want to add a blog to it but am not sure how to go about doing this.
I tried adding it as a static Posts Page but I don't want the website's navigation bar to be visible on the side. The other two options that I am aware of are to add a blog as a subdomain or to create a custom page template. I haven't actually tried doing either of these before so I'm not sure how complicated it might be but is one of these preferable to the other?

And are there other options that I'm not aware of?

Since you are already in WordPress this is pretty simple.

All I recommend you do is create a category or group of categories that your blog will be about.

You can add the category or group of categories to your menu(s) in the appearances section.

From there, create posts as you would like and assign them to the category you setup and viola, you have a blog.

Thanks mmspeer, but do you know if there is a way to do this so that the website's sidebar isn't visible on the blog?

Assuming you have a child theme set up you could create a Category Template for your "Blog" Category

and remove the sidebar from the code.

The sidebar is likely specific to your theme, some themes allow for multiple sidebars others may not. Before we dig into code, your theme may actually have it setup in a widget form, thus a drag and drop - what theme are you using?
