I love History and I would like to have blog entries with a date that goes way way past 1970 how do a go about this?

So if George Washington in the 1700s wanted to post to my blog or Herodotus to make a post before Christ was born what would I do?

    Thanks in advance,

You can’t. Best you can do is to fake it.

Most programming languages, PHP included, don’t support dates prior to 1900. Some have issues with dates before 1970. Since WordPress uses these sorts of dates throughout, it would be a major change to have posts with dates falling outside that range.

One way to fake it would be to use a Custom field to enter any dates you wanted (as strings), and then change your template to display that custom field as the date if it’s there.

Search the forums on ‘adodb’ (it’s a database abstraction library), and see this thread specifically:

I had to think about it a while but that is the way to go. The http://wordpress.org/support/topic/27367 thread had lots of information on the database abstraction library (‘adodb’).

Otto42 & Kafkaesqui thank you both for the solution.
