Why not introduce in post, pages and categories two simple fields for the meta title and the meta description without installing complex plugins?
What I mean is a native support for basic customization of meta title and meta description. I think it would be more than easy.
In this age of seo optimiziation it will be wonderful!

This would be nice to see in the WordPress core, but for now there is an excellent plugin for WordPress (if you're using the self-hosted, downloadable version) called "All in one SEO Pack". It allows you to edit meta data on a per post basis.
Unfortunately, if you're using WordPress.com to host your blog, you can't take advantage of plugins, so this will be no use to you.

Sure I'm using all in one seo and for some blog a simpler version written by me, but this kind of meta data became every day more important, so I hope to see in the future these fields natively present in WP! :-)
