I’ve spent a week trying to install this software so I’m becoming a little irate, please excuse any outbursts of frustration.

I uploaded the file to my host and that’s as far as I can get. The file doesn’t open from my site. I can open the file on my computer but wp-admin/install.php isn’t an executable file, so windows laughs at me when I try to open it. Needless to say I haven’t got past this stage.
    What am I doing wrong.

  • wordpress is a server program based on php and only be installed on a server you can not install wordpress like any other software on your computer.

Did you follow instructions on how to install wordpress.

yes, word for word, up until part two that is, then I had to give up. I’ve only ever built four or five websites, so i’m no expert.
“Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a MySQL user who has all privileges for accessing and modifying it”.
It will take me weeks to work out what that means never mind doing it. It’s certainly not going to be a five minute install.

Who is host what type of panel your host provides.

My host is 123-reg but I don’t know what type my control panel is. Having read the instructions about using the cPanel, my panel does not have any of the options they instruct you to use.

There is no database section and it doesn’t allow you to create one. There is no MySQL Database Wizard icon to help.

i am having this same problem i think but know even less about all this now from my cpanel ive gone into fantastico then wordpress and tried to install new wordpress i typed in all the proper info clicked [install wordpress] then [Install WordPress (2/3)

The MySQL database and MySQL user jdamon_wrdp1 will be created and used for this installation.

    – You chose to install in the main directory of the domain womensshoeshop.com.
    – The access URL will be: http://womensshoeshop.com/.

Click on Finish installation to continue.] pops up on my screen with a [finish installation] button at the bottom so ill then click on [finish installation] then it bring me to a screen with my login info and ask me to send all the info to an email of my choice and ill recieve all my info but when i try to enter my admin it will either send me to some lingerie site that has nothing to do with me or to a blank page.
now ive done this process with a diff domain name 1 time previous to my current domain without any problems but i ended up deleting that domain. Now i dont know if i did all the deleting correctly or even if it would effect me installing wordpress.
I have no idea what to do or where to go from here ive come to a complete stop and need major help fast

Jdamon, ‘m pretty savvy with computers but they make installation incredibly difficult. The 5 minute install is a joke (maybe for the person who designed the software).
You should try moonfruit.com. Up and running in seconds. It takes a little time to get your bearings on editing etc but no problems with installations or cPanels or codeX, etc, etc, etc.

    jdamon81881,

It’s considered impolite to interrupt someone else’s thread. I’m sure we’ll be more than happy to help you if you start your own thread. I use cPanel, WordPress, and Fantastico almost daily so I’ll look for your post.

    Thanks!
