base64_encode hack keeps repeating (3 posts)

How's it going forum? Ok, I need a little assistance here. I recently (few weeks ago) got hacked and posted here to get more info.

Had some great advice and was able to find the hack (the code: Base64_endcode ('6nhraunfjan'), which was in my index and footer files)

and got rid of it on all the necessary files.

The problem is it keeps reoccurring. I have 2 domains (shared hosting) and both keep getting it. Every time I get rid of the hack it eventually comes back.

I've changed my passwords on both domains (way stronger ones...maybe not strong enough), I've uploaded fresh files (accept the wp-contents. Seeing if that's the root of the problem)

My question for you is, how else can I prevent further hacks? I've read up on the "hardening WordPress" info and have implemented some of the tips, but still the hack keeps coming back.

I recently changed passwords and uploaded fresh files so I'll see if it comes back again.

Any advice or opinions would be greatly welcomed.

    Thanks all.

Does that mean you didn't replace any of the files/folders in wp-contents? If you didn't replace them, did you check all of your plugins and themes for anything malicious and made sure all themes and plugins are up to date?

    Thanks for your reply Mickey.

I cleaned up the malicious codes on my themes and the wp-content index. Only reason I didn't upload a fresh wp-content is because I'm trying to avoid getting rid of my plugins and having to re-install them. If it comes down to it, I will, but I'm just trying to avoid it (bad practice...maybe).
