Getting more spam subscriptions than usual and would love to utilize the Barred Domains list under the Miscellaneous settings, though I’ve been unable to find a reliable list to implement here via our good friend Google.

I certainly don’t want to manually list domains as I have no qualifying knowledge of what domains are all bad and I don’t want to accidentally block legit subscribers.

Preferably, I’d like to use a low-level list, meaning domains that are without a doubt bad, not a list that’s so extensive that it covers some domains that may also block legitimate users.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks, Bryan

  • @bryan,

In my experience it isn’t the domain that’s bad but the email address. I block the usual culprits that seem to hit my sites, things like email.com and mail.ru for example. There is no list that I am aware of.

Aah, exactly. Of course blocking individual emails is pointless (in this context) so the next best thing is exactly that, mail.ru for example I recognized as a common spam domain right away.

Here’s a pretty comprehensive spam list:

A little too strict though. Obviously no one should ever block Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc. I’ll just have to build my own list, hope it helps others.

The following are definitely ones I recognize from over 20 sites I’ve managed over the years. Never, have I received legitimate subscribers, members, customers etc in any capacity with email accounts from these domains:

    mail.ru
    163.com
    yandex.ru
    o2.pl
    126.com
    yeah.net

And I would consider these 99.9% safe to block.

    Thanks, Bryan

    @bryan,

Those look pretty reasonable domains to block to me also. Good luck building your list.
