    Tried to move a testsite to the root directory for a client...followed the codex instructions perfectly....but at one point they say to change the URI's...which are now URL's in the settings-general-tab within the dashboard.

    After doing so, you cant get back into the admin area to complete their steps....

    WTF? Could you people please make using wordpress less of a 'i wanna kill myself task' and get your selves together?

    I'm sure I'm not the only one with issues trying t move a site from one directory to another....

    Go and read Moving_WordPress and/or Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory properly - especially the bits that say:

    Do not worry about the error message and do not try to see your blog at this point! You will probably get a message about file not found.

    right after the instruction to change the urls...

    Moving WordPress Within Your Site, yes? What steps did you manage to complete successfully?

    thanks for your help!

    yes, 'moving wordpress within your site'.

    I skipped 8 becouse it says for wordpress 2.0. Then moved onto step 9.
    I got through step 9. (put old files into root directory).

    Then I could no longer lo-into the dashboard, either on the new 'root directory' or the old testSite directory....

    So I could not complete the permalinks step.

    Once this didn't work, I went into panic/google mode and added this this to the config.php file:
    define('WP_HOME', 'http://mojofocusgroups.com');
    define('WP_SITEURL', 'http://mojofocusgroups.com');

    thanks again...

    Perhaps you made a mistake when adding the new urls in steps 4 & 5? The process outlined on that page has been tested thousands of times.

    heres the error msg im getting when trying to get to the wp-admin page....

    Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/mojofoc1/public_html/wp-content/plugins/tubepress/classes/net/php/pear/HTTP/Request2/Adapter.class.php:299) in /home/mojofoc1/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 890

    That's got nothing directly to do with the site move! You appear to have a bad plugin. Rename the wp-content/plugins/tubepress folder.

    But the site/theme worked perfectly until this attempted transfer to the root....

    Well, it looks like there's a problem in your theme's functions.php file now.

    line 37 is blank in the functions.php file.....

    I think that refers to the place where it leaves that file for the next step.....

    then breaks in pluggable.php on line 890?

    IDK...

    No - the issue is around line 37 in functions.php. Please read the page at the link I gave above.

    that fixed it! I had extra lines, blank ones...that were f'ing it all up.

    thank you from the bottom of my heart!

    So, one last question....when I remove the index.html file from the root, the wp site should take over correct? Right now the old temp place holder is still showing....

    Glad to hear that you've got it working. I've no idea why you didn't have these errors before the move.

    when I remove the index.html file from the root, the wp site should take over correct?

    Yes - assuming your host has set a property DirectoryIndex up.If index.php doesn't kick in automatically, try adding DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm to the top of your root .htaccess file.
