[resolved] Backup Question (3 posts)

I have a question regarding the Backup feature included in WordPress 2.0.

I have searched both the WOrdPress Codex and Support forums for anything related to "Backup" , but couldn't find anything.

When I click "Backup" in WordPress it downloads a .zip file that contains an SQL file.

Is this file a backup of my entire blog including past posts, comments, etc.?

If so, what would I do with this file if I needed to upload it?

If I wanted to backup my blog in a different way what options would I have?

If I simply downloaded my entire WordPress directory to my Hard Drive and saved that - would that be considered a backup as well?

That file has all your complete WordPress database. It does NOT include the program (script) files so if you have customized Themes or Plugins you should back those up as well. The backup process for both your database and WordPress files is discussed in Backing_up_your_database.

Also see Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup regarding the restoration of your database.

As you will see in those article, backing up the WordPress directory only backs up your WordPress programs/scripts.
