I’m trying to backup my site and comments via the backup tool (Dashboard–> Tools –> Backup).

I’ve done it successfully before (it has been a while) but now it is not working. The task bar progresses and it looks as if it is working but when it gets to 100% done, it neither saves to desktop nor will email a copy. I’ve tried it with a few tables included as well as none checked.

Any thoughts how to make this work again? I know there are a few other backup methods but this was so quick and easy when it worked for me.

    Thanks!

  • There is no Backup option in WordPress core. So you must be using a backup plugin.

    Whoops, thanks. It is this:

    WordPress Database Backup
    Version 2.2.3

If you don’t know that one, do you have another that you like?

Thanks. Seems kind of old–not available through plugins–>add new.

It seems that my .sql backup files are all being saved directly to the server (just checked) even if you check the email or download options.

    Seems kind of old

Newer isn’t always best. This plugin does exactly what it says on the tin beautifully and has been doing so since it first came out. Well-written, no bugs (that I’m aware of and I’m fussy) and not updated because it simply doesn’t need to be due the original development approach.

    not available through plugins

Try searching on DB Cron Backup.

even if you check the email or download options

Sorry? There isn’t an email option in dbc-backup – though email me nicely and I might send you out a companion plugin that can email the backups to you. 🙂
