Backing Up Database Question (4 posts)

I've wondered about this for a while and finally decided to ask about it because I'm about to do a backup.

I found 2 pages in the codex that explain how to backup your database.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups#Simple_Backup
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database

One says NOT to check any of the boxes under data and the other says TO check boxes under data. Which way is the correct way and why are there conflicting instructions on how to do it?

The second url works every time for me. Also do an xmr export from your blog's admin - that way you will have 2 backups and not the same format.

p.s. You've been giving pretty solid advice to others - appreciate it.

This is a minor issue, but I would check 'Complete Inserts' which means each field name is stored with it's value. Left unchecked it backs up the data in the same order as the database columns. The complete inserts dump result is a larger file.

The 'Use hexidecimal for binary fields' transforms binary data into ASCII to prevent data loss for binary (or BLOB) fields. I don't think WordPress has any binary fields but just in case this can't hurt to be checked.
