    Hi everyone,
    On my site (rowanibbeken.co.uk) there's a black area around the subheading reading: 'fine art photography'; I'd like to make that whole box transparent so you can see the image behind it. I've written in background: transparent; into all possible areas of the style.css but nothing's happened. What am I missing? Is it really obvious?
    Thanks in advance!
    Rowan

    Have you considered switching to a theme on WordPress.org: http://wordpress.org/themes/ ? They're all free and we support them.

    Thing is I've spent ages getting the look I want on this theme and I don't want to throw that all away just yet. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?

    Yeah, the background isn't applied to that subheading. It's applied to your main containing element; the element that contains the main section of the page (excluding the header and footer). Your subheading is just sitting on top (inside) of your main section.
    Change the background on the main element and everything inside that will be transparent, not just the subheading.

    try working with a browser inspection tool to find out where the black background comes from;

    as this is a pure formatting issue, consider to ask at a CSS forum like http://csscreator.com/forum
