[resolved] Background image + white color: margins disappear (16 posts)

    Very strange situation:

    I have a background image (1,500 width). Since the bottom of this image is white, I want to also have a white background color.

    When I select "white" as background color, all margins (top, left and right) disappear:

    But when I select any other color as background color (ex: blue), all margins are OK:

    Please help!

    Without seeing the actual site live, it's really difficult to offer much help. Can you post a link to the site?

    Here is the link (with the white background color):

    I am using a TwentyTwelve Child theme.

    Run your Child Theme stylesheet through the W3C validator and see if there are any syntax errors disregarding CSS3 errors.

    Andrew,

    I don't think he problem is related to my child theme at all...

    I am using the WP sytem (Appearence>Background feature to select the color background. So my question is simple:

    Why there is a problem only with the white color and not with all other colors?

    Can you switch to a different colour, so we can see the difference?

    I just switched to a blue background.

    Sorry, I still see white.

    In Firefox, I have the blue background but not yet in Chrome. I don't know why it is longer for Chrome to refresh (but it is another problem...).

    Maybe I have to better set up WP Super Cache (I just desactivated it).

    If you have any caching active, it's going to be problematic when you are making changes - they won't show. Better to leave it off until you are done with changing things.

    Also be sure you are clearing browser caches.

    WPyogi,

    Yes you are right. But how can we explain the basic problem I have:

    - No margins with white background
    - No margin problems with any other color

    May be this thread will solve your problem.

    Try your luck.

    Unless someone can see the problem, it's pretty hard to offer much help. Generally, the troubleshooting steps are:
    -- clear any and all caches, try another browser

    -- validate your HTML and CSS for any errors causing or contributing to the problem; Browser inconsistencies are often caused by code errors. (Not all errors you see will be problematic, but any open or missing or extra or stray tags are. CSS syntax or parse errors may also be causing problems.)

    -- use Firebug to look and see what is going on with the CSS

    @viveknath322
    Thanks. I will take a look tonight on this page. Interesting.

    @WPyogi
    You are right. Instead of using WP>Appereance>Background (where I selected the problematic white background), I will put some code directly in style.css of the Child Theme.

  15. The missing padding on white backgrounds is built in by design, so that it blends in with the white content background.
    As a workaround, I'd suggest changing your background-color to something like #fffffe.

    Thanks! It works perfectly.
