    Are you using a child theme or a custom CSS plugin?

    Please post in:

    http://wordpress.org/support/theme/twentytwelve#postform

    You'll need to have a custom CSS plugin installed or a child theme set up before making any changes.

    Yes, all of those changes will be lost when WP is updated.

    Yes. Do not edit the theme itself. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.

    Once you do that, you just need to upload your image, and add this to your new child style.css with the right image URL:

    body.custom-background {
    background-image: url('http://image.url.here.com');
    }

    like this ? But the image isn't appearing !
    :
    /*
    Theme Name: Twenty Twelve Child
    Theme URI: http://example.com/twenty-twelve-child/
    Description: Twenty Twelve Child Theme
    Author: Trygve Alsos
    Author URI: http://www.ottosgulvsliperi.no
    Template: twentytwelve
    Version: 1.0.0
    */

    @import url("../twentytwelve/style.css");

    /* =Theme customization starts here
    -------------------------------------------------------------- */

    body.custom-background {
    background-image: url(images./bg.jpg);
    }

    Try using a full file path to the image.

    You do need to clarify what you're referring to as the white field.

    Tnx RachelGoldstein71 u got me to an idea, so i googled it and found this code :
    Pasted the link to the image and voila, im yet another step to finish the site :-)
    but the text align, margin, padding, etc, don't need to be there?

    #page {
    background: url(http://www.ottosgulvsliperi.no/wp-content/themes/twentytwelve/images//bg.jpg);
    text-align: left;
    margin: 0 auto;
    padding-top: 20px;
    position: relative;
    border: none;
    border-top: none;
    clear: both;
    }

    background: url(http://www.ottosgulvsliperi.no/wp-content/themes/twentytwelve/images//bg.jpg);
