Backend on child site redirects to parent backend; need domain mapping? (6 posts)

I've installed multisite (subdirectories) at emphasysrealty.com.

Using WP Multi Network, I created a second network at wpbroker.com.

Then via WordPress MU Domain Mapping, I mapped to wpbroker.com. (At first I wasn't sure this was necessary because wpbroker.com already displayed the front end of my site as expected, but pages such as /about/ wouldn't display until I set up domain mapping. Later, though, I deactivated domain mapping, and I'm still able to get to pages such as /about/. Not sure what's up with that.)

Next I created a child site at wpbroker.com/agentred/, but I can't view or access it. When I click the Backend link, I'm redirected to the backend for wpbroker.com. When I try to go to the front end, I get a 404 because it thinks I'm looking for a page on wpbroker.com vs an actual child site.

Any suggestions as to what I should change?

No, when you set up multiple network, you do not need to domain map the second network domain.

you need to do all the DNS & parking steps, but you do not need the plguin.

    Thanks for that clarification.

I tried parking the domain via cpanel, but that failed, so it was never parked. However, I was still able to set up my site at wpbroker.com b/c of dns changes that my boss made. I can access it just fine. The child site wpbroker.com/agentred is the one I can't access, and I wonder if it's b/c the domain is not parked.

No, parking it or not won't affect the permalinks.

If you noticed, all the permalinks on the second blog do not work either. that's what you need to fix.

Okay, I'm getting closer. The permalinks are now working at wpbroker.com. (For those who are interested in knowing: I thought that because I could access wpbroker.com/about/, it was a sign that permalinks were working. However, I tried to go to wpbroker.com/2010/10/01/hello-world/ just now, and of course Andrea_r was exactly right, it didn't work. I was able to fix this by deactivating the domain mapping plugin. As Andrea_r notes above, the domain mapping plugin is not needed with WP Multi Network is being used.)

My original issue remains that I can't access the dashboard for wpbroker.com/agentred because I'm redirected to the dashboard for wpbroker.com. It's very strange, because the address on my dashboard is http://wpbroker.com/agentred/wp-admin/index.php, but the the dashboard is labeled as being for the parent wpbroker.com site. When I change any settings on this dashboard, the changes are reflected in the wpbroker.com site, so it's clear that despite what I see in the address bar, I'm actually located in the dashboard for wpbroker.com, not wpbroker.com/agentred.

I'm thinking however the domain was parked, it was not done quite right.
