Back End / Edit Post Widget Locations Keep Resetting (2 posts)

I really want to be able to set my post new / edit post widgets to be set in one location and order (certain ones under the content field, certain ones on the right, in a specific order) and have it be that way whenever I edit a post or start a new post.

Yet when I move them around, uncheck boxes under "screen options" they always move back to the wrong layout, even if I save the post. It's driving me crazy - I've got a More Fields custom workflow that I need to get into, and scrolling all around the screen and having the turn off the ones like "comments" "discussion" and so on is really annoying.

Same problem with regular post types (post, page) and custom post types, though different boxes show up, none of the missing ones are really essential.

Plus, I'd like the backend to be user friendly for site users eventually, but if I can't get it to be user friendly for me, that's never going to work. Right now, ALL the widgets AND the content are jammed onto the right column for any users under administrator level, and I can't figure that out either! I've tried disabling plugins, no dice!

Any ideas? Is there a plugin to manage backend widget layout?

I've been searching for hours and can't find a solution.

I've got the same problem in a 3.0.3 install. I keep moving the boxes to where I want them but they always move back into the default positions.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
