Autoupdate requires PHP5 (5 posts)

I've struggled with this for months only to find out that Autoupdate requires PHP5. If you don't have it, it says "downloading zip..." and just sits there. Forever. No error, nothing.

Found this out only because there was a long ago closed topic that mentioned mapping PHP to PHP5 in your .htaccess file as a way to solve it.

Changed an otherwise perfectly working blog to PHP5 and voila, autoupdate works perfectly.

Perhaps the codex page on updating should mention this?

You can update the codex yourself if you are logged in. Add what you know and I'm sure if there are any holes someone will fill the gaps.

Never had the guts to try that before, but I just did. :)

    Thanks.

Congrats! Just made my first contribution the other day too. Still lots of blanks to fill.

WP will require PHP5 soon anyway..... but it's good to know what works and doesn't until then!
