Automatic WP 2.8 upgrade - it overwrites and deletes everything. (2 posts)

It is a comment related to the automatic 2.8 upgrade and the next ones. Could it be possible to have an automatic upgrade script respecting your existing theme and its customized files. If you customized the default theme without renaming it, it would just be overwritten and the original theme re-installed, if previously deleted (or overwritten), as well. I made the upgrade on my different sites and it is quite annoying to search my theme backup files and to reinstall them by ftp each time. It is pretty much the same thing with the plugins. Could it possible to have an automatic upgrade button that upgrade the programming/coding part, then options, if we want to upgrade everything else. I don't know, if anyone cares, but it was my 2 cents.

I concur... lame way of doing an upgrade... You can use the automatic upgrade plugin... I think it does preserve templates... But not 100% sure though...

Also, you should copy the template you are using to a new directory... Like if you use default, copy it to default2 and then upgrade and use that one... Makes it so you don't have this problem... ever...
